This 2628 sf home was designed to be off grid and the challenge was expansive views to the North and East. The client wished to capture the view from practically every room while still getting adequate solar gain. The result was a voluminous living space and a long west wing with 4 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms off a solar hall. A masonry wall separates the hall from the bedrooms which stores heat during the day and gives it off at night. The living space has high vaulted ceilings with clerestory windows for added heat gain and light. With some minor window changes, this design could also work well flipped North/South.
All of Integral Design Studio's strawbale plans incorporate an internal modified post and beam structure, with bales on edge as infill. This method streamlines the building process and allows more living space on the inside compared to flat bale construction. These plans also have concrete slab or adobe floors which act as the main thermal mass. Plans may be reversed to better accommodate specific sites at no additional charge. Design services are available for custom modifications to these existing plans for an additional hourly fee.
These plans include all four elevations, scaled floorplans, cross section details, other significant construction details. *In some cases the prints may be on 24"x36" sheets.
